Reflecting on today’s “Verse of the Day.”
We’re Home… to this HEAT!
2 Corinthians 4:18 says, “As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
This verse got me to thinking today… we REALLY are only here for a short time. Our travels took us all over… 4300 miles this past week and now that I’m home and reflecting on that amazing trip; I’m also mindful of just how short this beautiful life is… how we are to soak it up. We got home and this heat has been crazy. Wasn’t use to this, and, in all honesty, I got very cozy in the cooler air of Boston and the beach weather in Scituate. I didn’t want to leave there at all! 🙂 And now that I’m home, I kinda want to escape it all again and run to Colorado. But, back to what I was saying… and back to this verse… life (the things that are seen) is short… it’s precious! It’s fleeting…
We went to see my Grandma this week upon returning home… she’s in a nursing home and she’s not doing well. There’s been talks of hospice. When they wheeled her out to the commons area and my mom started telling her who all was here to see her, and I said “Hey Grandma!” She perked up. She recognized my voice. I’m fighting the tears now even as I type this… because just as she recognized mine; I recognized hers. Dementia is a sickening disease. It robs you. It’s unfair. I’ve grieved her and I feel every time we come back together, even though we only have her for a very brief period of time, It’s as though we grieve all over again… and we still have her with us.
I guess my point is this… I’m reading (finishing up reading) the Mayflower. It’s the story of the Mayflower but that was really only chapter one. It was more so the story of Plymouth and how the Pilgrims established themselves and lived or died here or then even returned home to England after 20-30 years. It’s been an absolutely fascinating read… but it’s also simply reminded me that we are all pilgrims fighting for the same thing… our freedoms… our opportunities to be able to go/do what we would like. This Scripture passage above reminds me that we will only really have that freedom with Jesus in eternity with Him. Everything here is simply passing away with time.
Be blessed, friends!
