Happy 5th of July!

Have you ever thought about the 5th of July?

Happy 5th of July! Have you ever thought about how so often the 5th of July is just any other day… we don’t treat it like it’s a special day like the 4th. It’s just the 5th. However, I can assure you that our founding fathers were still rejoicing over the work they had completed on the 4th come the 5th. May we carry in our hearts daily the freedoms that men and women gave up so that we could have this very freedom.

Every year when we sit on the lawn near the old courthouse in downtown Fort Smith to watch the fireworks, I can’t help but think of the “booms” that that building heard during the Civil War… and they weren’t festive.

I’m thankful for the peace we have today on our land. I’m thankful for the freedoms we have today. And I just don’t get how non-believers can grasp this beauty and freedom that we have outside of a relationship with Jesus! President Franklin Roosevelt said, “We cannot read the history of our rise and development as a Nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic!”

Robert Morgan said it best: “The Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path; when it burns low, our culture grows dark. The best way to keep America strong is to know her history; to honor her roots, to preserve her legacy, and to cherish the eternal God who, in His providence, placed this continent between two shimmering seas, and who, in His goodness, provided a Book that became her moral and intellectual foundation: The Holy Bible.” This is so true. America has to give credit where credit is due!

So, as we go forward in celebrating, may we be mindful to celebrate our freedoms every day and may we be thankful for God’s Word that guided our forefathers and that continues to Guide us. May we not lose sight of HIS Word!

Blessings,

Frankie
